

- The Little Red Lighthouse
Originally erected in Sandy Hook, NJ in 1880 and known as the “Jeffries Hook Light”, this landmark was moved to its present location in Fort Washington Park beneath the GWB in 1921. It is now being maintained by the City, and PRESERV worked closely with the NY Landmarks Conservancy as well as with the Historic House Trust to maintain the historic fabric of the building, while restoring it to its original state.
Restoration of the building included:
- repainting of the lighthouse with custom paint formula in historically
accurate colors
- restoration and replacement of the lighthouse’s cast iron ornamentation
-fabrication and installation of 5 new polycarbonate windows at observation
level
-fabrication and installation of 4 circular porthole windows
Project completed in the fall of 2000
