Park East Synagogue
The Park East Synagogue, was built in 1889 -1890 by Schneider and Herter with a victorian preaching space and lively, intricate moorish-style façade.
In 1996, PRESERV won the Upper East Side Historic Preservation Award for its work at this synagogue, which was designated as a landmark in 1980.
Comprehensive exterior restoration of this house of worship included:
- Brick cleaning, pointing and replacement using traditional methods
- Patching and replication of ornamental red sandstone with combination of custom Jahn materials and precast concrete
- Wood repairs
- Decorative sheet metal fabrication and installation
Project completed in the Spring of 1996
